If you’re looking for a faster and more cost-effective option, composite veneers are a fantastic choice. They can be completed in a single visit and are made from a tooth-colored resin material that’s sculpted directly onto your teeth. They’re a popular option for younger patients or those wanting a budget-friendly alternative to porcelain veneers.
They are carry many benefits:
Lower cost
Immediate results
Repairable if chipped
Less tooth reduction
They may not last as long as porcelain, but they’re a great way to boost your confidence without a major investment.
Porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years with proper care, while composite veneers may last 4 to 7 years. Their longevity depends on factors like oral hygiene, grinding habits, and regular dental checkups. At Smile for Miles, we provide tips and maintenance plans to help your veneers last as long as possible.
Veneers are considered a semi-permanent cosmetic solution. While they’re bonded to your teeth long-term, the process involves removing a small amount of enamel, making it irreversible. This means once you get veneers, you’ll always need some form of covering on those teeth. However, with proper care, they can be a lasting investment in your smile.
At Smile for Miles Dental, getting veneers takes two appointments:
Dr. Hwang conducts an oral exam and asks about your goals for treatment. Then, she takes a series of digital, panoramic oral X-rays to assess the condition and position of your teeth.
Next, Dr. Hwang administers a local anesthetic and prepares your teeth to receive veneers. She removes a thin layer of enamel from each tooth, about one millimeter, and takes scans of your mouth.
Finally, she sends your impressions to a dental laboratory, which creates a set of custom veneers.
When the laboratory completes your veneers, you return to Smile for Miles Dental. Dr. Hwang lines up the veneers with your permanent teeth and bonds them in place. Then, she polishes your teeth, trims any excess material, and provides you with care instructions.
Dental veneers are not recommended for missing teeth. Veneers need a natural tooth structure to bond to. If you’re missing a tooth, options like dental implants or bridges may be more suitable. That said, once a replacement tooth is in place, veneers can help improve the aesthetics of the surrounding teeth for a seamless smile.
